Police officer writing “The Compliment Guy” a ticket in Austin, Texas.

On 10/11/15 The Compliment Guy was given a ticket under an “outdoor music permit ordinance 9-2-11. The officer approached me earlier in the day as he barged out of Allen boots where he was moonlighting as security. He took the time to print out the ordinance and highlight with yellow marker the clause on megaphones. I told him it does not apply to me and I cannot even get a permit for what I do as I tried months ago when you told me I needed to  before.

On the 6th of November I”m confident the case will be thrown out for 5 reasons:

1-I’m not a music venue, I’m not made of brick and mortar.

2-I have an email from the Mayor’s office stating I do not need a permit for what I do, nor is their a permit available for what I do.

3- 1st amendment right for free speech, free assembly with a public cause. My cause is seeing people smile, and feel good.

4- I was not playing music nor breaking sound decibel laws.

5- No one called in to complain, nor did I disturb the peace. If anything I helped keep the peace by helping people feel good.

Well lets see what happens on the 6th. If for some reason it is not thrown out a jury trial will be requested and I will compliment everyone in the room with my opening statement. Is it not the job of a police officer to keep the peace and if so than I should have been allowed to keep doing what I love, Giving Compliments with my megaphone.

UPDATE: I went to the court house on the 6th and was told by the clerk prosecuting attorney does not work on Fridays. I was told previously I could see the prosecutor on my ticket date. I’m now scheduled for December 1 to meet with the prosecuting attorney.

Oh well based on my past experience with anything government related this is to be expected. No big deal, will deal with it on the 1st if no glitches.

Seeing her appreciation and enthusiasm for Compliments on the streets of Austin, Texas was great. I continue to enjoy all the great people I have been meeting as a direct result of giving compliments, Seeing new smiles each day continue to fuel the momentum and passion for seeing more happy people. The smiles also fuel more and more compliments. I LOVE giving Compliments!

Super Human Hugs received by Compliment MAN. WOW!

Everyone brushed their teeth today.

Compliments again on South Congress and the encounter with the super human hug group led by Jenna Jasso.  I took a pause break to receive genuine super hugs from the group pictured above. A super human hug is not rushed and connects the hearts of both huggers.

I was also used for a prop by Ron (on the left in pic above)as he displayed his extensive variety of hugs. I learned some new hug styles and realize I may need a portable shower nearby if Ron comes by again to shower off his extensive hug sweat. Thank you for the hugs and adding your great smiles to the Million Smile Project.

It’s Texas HOT! I’m becoming Texas Toast. I like toast and I love Texas!

A Texas Toast day.
A Texas Toast day.

My dedication to complimenting the people and things of Austin is turning me into Texas Toast this month of July. I expect August will even turn me into a darker toast. I’m ok with it because; ” I like toast and I love Texas”. My microphone arm as pictured has a nice farmers tan. I like organic farmers so I love my farmers tan.

The Texas hot weather will not slow down a continuation of continued compliments on the streets of Austin. Everyone is unique and has great features to compliment. I’m complimenting agility, group walking in triangles, noses and hair buns just for starters. Sometimes I will compliment the same thing on others because I love the uniqueness and individuality of  example : peoples ear lobes or noses etc.

I’m noticing in upwards of 80% of people will engage and smile and laugh with me as I give compliments. A few people even strike the pose Madonna style waiting for a bliss of compliments, It is very fun and very rewarding seeing happy people everywhere I go.  Each and every smile warms my heart.  Super great to see so much heart in Austin, Texas.

Kissed by a Beautiful Stranger on South Congress.

Everyday, I give compliments to strangers and amazing beautiful things happen. Last weekend was no different. I brought out my new version  of my Compliment Guy cart. It’s a July weekend in Austin Texas and of course the weather is Texas hot. Sweat is pouring from my pours and the sun beating down upon any open skin. The heat and sun will try and turn me into Texas toast. I look at it this way, when you sweat your body purges toxins from your body. The more I sweat the more pure and powerful my mind and body become, oh and I like toast and I Love Texas.

A Saturday afternoon Austin, Texas on South Congress near Allen’s Boots complimenting everyone and even the cool dogs. Tons of beautiful smiles and positive happy energy. Suddenly a woman stops very close to me and turns her cheek to my face and points to her cheek and says: “kiss me right here”, I pause than pucker up and she turns quickly and lands a sweet kiss directly on my lips and walks off quickly. How did you like the kiss a few witness’s asked? I replied: “I liked it allot, it was a soft moist kiss with a precision landing.

Later in the day a man named Max came up to me after I complimented his hat. He said I just bought this hat and thank you for the compliment. Max than asked if he could give compliments. I said yes but please keep everything family friendly. I stepped back gave him the mic and he gave great compliments to all as his friend videotaped him. It was great seeing the positive energy exchanges between total strangers as Max was smiling and so too were everyone he complimented. It was a great Saturday, I lasted 5 hours before I ran out of water and my voice was getting hoarse.

Sunday now rolls in and I decide to head back near Allen’s boots once again. I only lasted 4 hours this day. Something different happen. A man from Denmark showed me a picture of his beautiful new baby and beautiful wife, He asked if he could videotape me complimenting his wife by name. Of course, I said and at that moment realized my compliments are being blasted to Denmark. A very clever man. He shared some stories with me and liked what I do. Another great interaction with another great person.

I continue to learn while giving compliments that all people are beautiful, especially when we smile. If we look at people and accept each person as we accept nature and it’s individual uniqueness than we will see more smiles and happiness. Of course if a wild animal growls at you or a fellow human is growling too than we would want to preserve ourselves by leaving growling things off in a distance until they resolve their growling matters.

Keep Austin Weird Festival

Compliments -Greeting Guests
Compliments -Greeting Guests

The Compliment Guy was the official greeter at the 2015 http://keepaustinweirdfest.com/ festival. 8 plus hours of continuous compliments to all the fun cool people. I stood at the top of the steps at the Long Center as  virtually everyone that entered received at least 1 genuine compliment.

All the smiles and all the fun and great music equals another great day.  A  brave 7 year old girl walked up to me with her dad off to the side several steps away and asks if she could give me compliments. I crouched down so I could look at her eye to eye.  She said some wonderful brilliant compliments. I then gave her some compliments. Next, she opened her arms as wide as possible towards her back and asked: ” may I hug you”? She gave me a hug with a smile that warmed my heart.

Each and every day I give compliments something extraordinary happens on top of an already great day. The extra great moment at the Keep Austin Weird Fest was an extraordinary 7 year old girl that clearly will achieve great things.

The Festival organizers said “The staff and people loved you, hope you will be back next year.” Yes of course, I will be back. I always go where I’m welcomed.
